For the first Halloween in the past 4 years I went trick or treating. I know what your thinking "Wow that is so geeky, a senior trick or treating for candy, not to mention the fact that he is wicked tall and no one is going to believe he is of an appropriate age to go trick or treating." I actually had lots of fun and got to dress up as Harry Potter nonetheless, plus....(drumroll) FREE CANDY!! So on Monday afternoon after sitting around doing homework all day(my school had a teacher meeting thinggummer) I decided to call my friends and see what was up for that night. One of my friends was under house arrest because he didn't finish his early action college applications. So he got stuck at home. Another one of my friends car broke down (again) and he too was stuck at his house. So this left Mitch, Andrew, and me of the geek squad. Mitch wants to go trick or treating and asks me to come to his house in costume and his girfriend (Jess) would drive us to go get Andrew. Her car is full of junk in the back seat, it was like sitting next to a mound of good-will leftovers. Clothes of all shapes and sizes (and likely scents but I wasn't brave enough to check) and toys that would confuse any kid.</p>

So it was me as Harry Potter, Mitch as a pimp with a large, pink, poofy haircut and a purple scarf and hat, and Jess as the fairy with a loud wand. When we got to Andrew's house we discovered that he was doing his Calculus homework and his parents were not too willing to let him leave. After some convincing we got Andrew to come with us. He became the man in the purple pimp hat since he didn't have a costume of his own. We then drove to the YMCA to pick up Shannon and some of her friends. We got to the Y about 30 minutes earlier than I normally would be there for swim practice. I saw Danielle coming our of the Y and asked her if she was going to practice tonight. She said she was planning on it but I said I wasn't since I was in Harry Potter atire(good for practicing incantations but not all that good for swimming). Shannon was in a bad mood and didn't want to go with us but the rest of the girls hopped in another car and we all headed for one of their houses.

When we get there we begin trick or treating down her street. Most of the people know Laura (whose house it was) and are happy to see us. One lady had 3 of her grandsons there. They were dressed up as a teddybear (so cute!), a pterydactyl (flying dinosaur), and the blue power ranger. We got to the end of the street and then began to go back. Andrew and I saw another house down the street so we decided to go get some more candy. The lady who opened the door was just the type of person you don't want to meet on Halloween, thats right a witch. She gave us some of the meanest looks I had ever seen and then asked us our ages. Andrew said 17 even though he was 18. She almost closed the door on us. She relectantly gave us each a small bag of M&M's. We then ran away from her house as fast as possible.

By that time it was 5 of 8 and we had to get Andrew home in 5 minutes or else his parents would be mad. After we dropped him off Mitch, Jess, and I went trick or treating down another street. At one place there was an old guy who went into his storage closet and got out and unopened box full of mini-oreo packages to give to us. Some lady also gave out ring pops. We then went back to Mitch's house and then I went home. I later found out that Mike went to swimteam that night and got there 10 minutes after he left. Too bad he didn't get there earlier or else he could've gone with us.

As many people know I am a reader, I also know that many of you have never finished a book longer than "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." If you ever do decide to pick up a book then here a few books that are really worth that extra effort.

  • Dragon's Blood trilogy - Jane Yolen
  • The Sword of Truth series - Terry Goodkind (The first book is Wizard's First rule)
  • The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series - Douglas Adams (Simply the funniest thing to come from England since Monty Python and the Holy Grail)
  • So You Want to Be a Wizard - ???
  • Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
  • The Time Warp Trio - (I forget but I know its by the same guy who wrote The Stinky Cheeseman, if you are looking for something short go with these)
  • His Dark Materials trilogy - Gary Pullman (First book is The Golden Compass)
  • Harry Potter - J.K. Rowling (To leave it off would be a sin)
  • The Shannara series - Terry Brooks
  • Timeline - Michael Crichton (So much better than the movie)
  • Jurrassic Park - Michael Crichton
  • Prey - Michael Crichton
  • Dune - Frank Herbert
  • any Dan Brown book
  • The Phantom Tollbooth - ???

I'm sure there are at least a few more but this is all I can think of for now. If you have any suggestions for me to read I would like to hear them especially if they are fantasy or science fiction.

Well lets see whats been going on in my crazy life for the past couple of weeks. Well I had an exchange student and went to a lot of parties where Spanish was spoken possibly more than English. Had two visits from Katherine. Both of which were very awesome I must say. I would go into more detail but I seem to have very little time for all of the things I want to do these days. I went to the semi-formal with Katherine. Jack went too and I drove him, his date, and Katherine to the semi. We met up with Mike and Shannon at the semi and hung out with them for most of the night. I ate as much food as possible and took home a large amount of wintergreen lifesavers, the ones that spark in the dark when you bight them! When we got home we watched Gangs of New York. Also during these couple of weeks my cars muffler broke, fixed itself, and then broke again. Both times it broke was after I had gone through a large puddle. And thanks to recent flooding there were a large amount of puddles in the streets. It made the sound of a motorboat, bush plane, go-kart, motorcycle, and other loud obnoxious things. I do admit that it was fun to rev the engine and make a loud rumbling noise while driving through town. This weekend my friend's band, the great FML, has two shows. One tomorrow and one Sunday. So very pumped for some rockingoutnesstothemax. I don't think would even make sense if I typed it as multiple words. I also finished my part in the college applications this week for 3 of my colleges. Yippee! So happy, now my mom will stop yelling at me every chance she gets I hope. Fun times in the past and hopefully more in the future. The Golden Panda is such a good restaurant and buffets cause me to eat way too much.

As many people know I am hosting a Spanish exchange student starting today. She is from Valencia and her name is Eva. She found my MSN screen name in early summer and has been talking to me online. My Spanish isn't all that great and neither is her English. A few days ago she aksed "Must I (banador)?" I thought she was asking about if she had to shower since the word for bathroom in spanish is "bano" and to take a bath is "banarse." I replied "Cuando?" (when). At that time she left. I almost asked "Te gusta estabas sucia?" (Do you like being dirty?). Luckily I didn't because she wasn't talking about showering at all. Turns out "banador" means bathing suit.

Many people have asked me where I got my screen name. I decided to combine "snowboarding" and "surfing" into one word and got "snurfer." At that time I had forgotten that there was an item known as a snurfer. I had actually used this device a while ago at my friends house. It wasn't easy to control at all. That tow-rope really doesn't help at all and falling off is almost guaranteed. I spent the entire day of winter fun trying to get down his hill and go off the jump at the bottom with the snurfer. I don't think I ever succeeded, but we were able to catch some massive air in his 6-person, red tobogan.

FML (ForgetMy Landing) is playing at the Xaverian Dance tomorrow. I am going as their #1 fan. This is the main reason I'm going. The other is so I can wear this rediculous outfit I have planned out. I am still trying to decide what hat to wear but besides that its all set.

Without fail for the 4th year in a row a Freshman has once again decided to wear shorts to school on the first day. Now he will forever be known as "that freshman who wore shorts". I'm driving a load of kids to school. They kept complaining about the old 1986 volvo stationwagon and the gas leak. So now I'm allowed to drive the 1992 volvo which was previously my dad's. This one has a cd player! I played retro 80's music on the way to school today. Everyone looked at us funny. When was the last time you saw a group of teenagers going down 109 playing 80's retro? Club swimming also started today and it felt good to get back in the pool and get reaquainted with old friends. My teachers are all awesome this year and I will make a list of some of there awesome quotes. For example my Theology teacher, Dr. Pirozzi, (the only Dr. in the entire school) said, "I was going to correct your quizzes last night, but I got drunk and made prank phone calls instead."

Another great time spent at the lake. I will never forget the good times had this past weekend. Its too bad that Mike was unable to make an appearance. Well now I am back home with school closing fast and with more things that I have to do than I thought possible. This is quite possibly the best summer I have ever had. I feel sad knowing that it must end. I have another year of school ahead of me before I head off to some currently unknown college. I can already tell that it is going to be a very eventful year with good things and bad things mixed in. I'm sure that this year will fly by just like all the others do and soon enough I will be at the beginning of another summer, this one too full of surprises. I had a big surprise this summer and it turned out to make my summer completely unforgetable. Among other things, this summer has given me a boost of confidence in myself.

This has been a very busy summer for me. I've spent 5 days on Shelter Island (its next to Long Island) at my aunt and uncles house with my cousins, went to Raquette Lake for 2 weeks and had a "pretty much amazing" time, was home for less than 24 hours and then left for Cape Cod where I stayed for 1 week. My summer isn't even over yet! This is no where near Chronological order, if you really think I should put in chronological order I will do it later. I decided the first part because it was getting long enough and most people don't like to read a lot,(i noticed that no one commented on my Peru journal, my guess is that is probably because its 16 pages long) it also builds suspense for part 2! Are you feeling kalamazookeedoo? )

As most people know I'm leaving on Sunday for a trip to Florida to go sailing with the boyscouts in the Florida Keys. I will then visit four colleges in Florida that have Marine Biology as a major. I have decided to post some questions about what you think will happen to me while I'm sailing. Its your job to guess if this will happen or not. I will report back after and tell everyone what actually happened.
